modals: Will, can, may, must, could, should and so on

If one uses those auxiliaries and modals, the answer is using Yes or No and should be followed by subject and the auxiliary or modals as well.

Example: Q : Am I clever?

A : Yes, you are. Or

A : No, you are not ( No, you aren’t)

Q : Are you busy?

A : Yes, I am. Or

A : No, I am not.

Q : Do you like tea?

A : Yes, I do. Or

A : No, I don’t.
